DVD offers director's cut of 2001 film 'Ali'

WASHINGTON POST
Will Smith earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for his role as heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali, the rhyming boxer who often referred to himself as the "greatest," in the movie "Ali."
The director's cut of the acclaimed 2001 film comes to DVD this week for $24.95 from Columbia TriStar.
The DVD features include never-before-seen footage, the director's commentary and an exclusive making-of featurette.
The movie, directed by Michael Mann, explores Ali's professional and personal struggles as the boxer attempts to balance his religious beliefs, racism, politics, family and fame.
Pat Travers of Rolling Stone magazine wrote, "Michael Mann and Will Smith punch their way to the bruised heart of a hero."
Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett, co-stars in the R-rated film, along with comedian Jamie Foxx, Mario Van Peebles and Jon Voight, who received an Oscar nomination for his supporting role.
