Wharmby splits 2 games at Connie Mack tourney



Roth Bros. beat the Metros in championship action.
CINCINNATI -- Wharmby Sports of Youngstown's Class B baseball league split its first two games at the Connie Mack Regional Tournament.
Reid Lamport tossed a two-hitter and struck out eight batters as Wharmby defeated Andy's Niners, 9-3.
Jessie Alfreno and Lou Kopachy had three hits each for Wharmby while Billy Herman had two doubles. Also with two hits were Pat Oman and Phil Williamson.
Kevin Sikora pitched five innings and gave up a run in Wharmby's 7-3 loss to JL Clevelanders.
Herman, Alfreno, Oman, Williamson, Jake Gross, J.C. McCoy and Matt Guerrieri had hits.
Youngstown AA
YOUNGSTOWN -- Joe Bettura drove in two runs to help Roth Bros. to a 5-3 victory over Youngstown Metros in the AA championship series game at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Brent Tomko, Ryan Thompson and Rick Gozur drove in runs for Roth. Mike Hosterman was the winning pitcher.
For Metros, Dean Palombaro and Ryan Vaughn had RBIs, and Jeremy Hedegore had two hits.
Warren AA
WARREN -- Adam Morgan homered, and Scott Brewster drove in two runs to lead Lone Wolf Freight Systems to a 6-3 victory over Penn Ohio.
D.J. Gross was the winning pitcher while Brewster and Brian Smith doubled.
For Penn Ohio, Glenn Morris took the loss and had 12 strikeouts in 61/3 innings. Shawn Lucas had three hits while Ryan Burke had two. Lucas and Jason Martin tripled.
