Seniors are offered checks to shop at farmers markets



MERCER, Pa. -- The Mercer County Area Agency on Aging still has Farmers Market Checks available for county senior citizens to use to buy locally grown produce.
The program, funded by the state, provides checks of $20 for singles and $40 for couples to be used at designated farmers markets in the county.
To be eligible, a person must be at least age 60, live in Mercer County and have an income of no more than $17,224 for singles or $23,107 for a couple.
The last day to get checks will be Sept. 30, and they must be used by Nov. 30.
Checks and market location information are available at these locations:
UKnights of Columbus, 170 Clarksville Road, Greenville: 1 to 4 p.m. this Wednesday only.
UReynolds VFW Post 7599, 115 Edgewood Drive, Transfer: 3 to 5:30 p.m. this Friday only.
UShenango Valley Center for Aging & amp; Geriatric Health, 220 N. Buhl Farm Drive, Hermitage: 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
UGreenville Area Senior Community Center, 339 E. Jamestown Road: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays.
UGrove City Area Senior Community Center, 301 S Broad St.: 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 to 11 a.m. Fridays.
UMcQuiston Center by the Park, 29 Railroad St., Sandy Lake: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
UMercer County Area Agency on Aging, 133 N. Pitt St., Mercer: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday each week.
