Ohio Red Cross banks need type O blood

Into its second month of a blood emergency, the American Red Cross, Northern Ohio Blood Services Region, reported that, as of Friday, there was less than a one-day supply of blood types O positive and O negative in its inventory.
Four other blood types also are below minimum inventory standards.
Red Cross officials urged people who are eligible to donate blood as soon as possible. In the United States, 60 percent of the population is eligible to give blood, but only 5 percent donates.
Red Cross blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and provide a photo ID or Red Cross donor card.
