Area residents in Iraq
Area residents assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit were recently deployed to Iraq. They include:
Pfc. Glenn D. McGee, son of Mary J. McGee of Salem, a 2003 graduate of Leetonia High School.
Lance Cpl. Stephen T. Jordan, a 2003 graduate of West Branch High School, Beloit.
On ship to Bahrain
Coast Guard Petty Officer 2nd Class Isaac Pugh, whose wife, Ashley, is the daughter of Harold Hill of Wellsville and Bonnie Hill of East Liverpool, is serving aboard the USS Firebolt forward deployed to Manama, Bahrain.
Normally, Pugh is assigned to the patrol coastal ship USS Whirlwind out of Norfolk, Va. However, the 28-member crew has taken over command of USS Firebolt to allow that ship's original crew to rotate home.
Pugh is an engineman on board Whirlwind, repairing and maintaining four Paxmon 'V' 16 engines, a rigid hull inflatable boat, and two 20-ton air conditioning units.
Returns from Middle East
Navy Seaman Wayne D. Bonner Jr. recently returned to Youngstown after serving six months in the Mediterranean Sea and in the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Bonner is normally stationed in Norfolk, Va., aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, where he is a deck seaman. After his leave, he will attend yeoman's school.
Bonner, a graduate of The Rayen School, is the son of the Rev. Jonetta R. Bonner of Youngstown, and son of Wayne D. Bonner Sr. and stepson of Diane Bonner of Campbell. His son, Wayne D. Bonner III, lives in Ravenna.
Area residents return
Several area residents recently returned from a deployment to the Persian Gulf aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington, home-ported in Norfolk, Va. They include:
Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew R. Mull, son of Lauraetta L. and William M. Mull of Berlin Center, and a 1989 graduate of Western Reserve High School, Berlin Center.
Navy Airman David B. Norris Jr., son of Valerie Sue Wright of New Brighton, Pa., and David B. Norris Sr. of Ellwood City, Pa.
Navy Airman Allicia A. Price, stepdaughter of Jessica L. Clutter and William E. Price Jr. of New Castle, Pa. She is a 2003 graduate of Lawrence County Vocational Technical High School, New Castle, Pa.
Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class William C. Sennett, son of Teresa L. and Robert S. Sennett of Greenville, Pa. He is a 2001 graduate of Reynolds High School of Greenville, Pa.

Ordnance disposal course
Army Pvt. Geoffrey R. Tracy Jr. has graduated from Phase I of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal course at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala. Tracy is the son of Helen M. and stepson of Charles R. Oliver of Struthers, and is a 1998 graduate of Struthers High School.
