Annual corn roast will feature auction, parade

CORTLAND -- The 5th annual Mecca Community Corn Roast will be from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 14, at Mecca Community Park.
Included in the festivities will be bingo, a Chinese auction, children's games and prizes, a classic car show, and a parade.
The corn roast committee is seeking entrants for the parade. It will start at 11 a.m., beginning at the Moose Lodge, state Route 46, north of Mecca Circle, and will end about 1 mile south on Route 46 at the Community Park. If you have a musical group, dance or baton team, antique vehicle, ATV or motorcycle, or any other float or activity appropriate for a family parade, contact the parade chairperson, Mary Owens at (330) 889-3899.
Parade organizers are also seeking people interested in decorating their bikes to ride in the parade. Owners of decorated bicycles well be entered into a contest to win a new bike. Two drawings will be made and two prizes awarded -- one for children ages 2-5, and one for children age 6 and older. Call (330) 889-3899 to enter the parade or bike drawing.
