A 1950s con artist takes over the life of an American playboy in Italy. "The Talented Mr. Ripley" (8 p.m., NBC), a1999 movie, stars Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett and Jude Law. It's based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith that was filmed earlier as "Purple Noon."
In connection with this weekend's debut of TNT's new movie about Evel Knievel, son Robbie attempts a live stunt on "Robbie Knievel Live" (8 p.m., TNT). He plans a motorcycle jump over planes on the deck of the USS Intrepid, the aircraft carrier that has become a museum in New York Harbor.
Already in trouble because he's accused of killing his estranged wife and her boyfriend, a detective (Kevin Dillon) meets up with a bunch of vampires in "Out for Blood" (9 p.m., Sci-Fi Channel). Also starring in this new movie are Vanessa Angel, Lance Henriksen and Melissa Rivers.
"The Italian Job" (9 p.m., Showtime) finds a gang of thieves tries to regain gold stolen in Italy that wound up in the hands of a colleague who betrayed them. Starring in this 2003 movie are Mark Wahlberg, Donald Sutherland, Charlize Theron and Mos Def.
The new documentary "Chop-Socky: Cinema Hong Kong" (10 p.m., IFC) looks at the history of Chinese martial-arts movies. Includes interviews with Jackie Chan, Jet Li, John Woo and others. Also tonight: Li in "Fist of Legend" (8 p.m.) and Chan in "Project A" (11 p.m.).
