Deputy sheriff injured
VIENNA -- A Trumbull County deputy sheriff was treated for injuries at a local hospital after a fight with a 22-year-old man. Ernie Cook, chief of operations at the jail, said Deputy Wayne Cardarelli suffered cuts and bruises after wrestling with Thomas White of Vienna around 2:25 a.m. today. White, who was also treated for minor injuries, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and drug abuse. According to reports, White entered the Dairy Mart on state Route 193 around 2 a.m. and asked the clerk for a lighter, which he then used to light a suspected marijuana cigarette, Cook said. The clerk then called the sheriff's department. "When Deputy Cardarelli arrived, Mr. White still had the alleged marijuana cigarette in his mouth," Cook said. He added that White became combative when Cardarelli attempted to arrest him.
