George Eads stars as the motorcycle daredevil in this new movie biography, "Evel Knievel" (8 p.m., TNT). Also starring Jaime Pressly and Beau Bridges.
"Dateline NBC" presents "Deadline" (8 p.m., NBC), a special two-hour documentary that takes a look at capital punishment in Illinois, and at the turbulent debate that erupted when Northwestern University journalism students showed that innocent men had been condemned to death row. Their findings led then-Gov. George Ryan, a former death penalty advocate, to conclude that his state's system was "broken, racist and inaccurate." In 2003 he commuted the sentences of all 167 death row inmates and placed a moratorium on executions. An independent film by Katy Chevigny and Kirsten Johnson, "Deadline" explores the life-or-death issue that, for Ryan, came down to whether anyone is justified playing God.
The original animated series "O'Grady" (9 p.m., Noggin), described as a mix of "Friends" and "Twilight Zone," is a comedic look at teen-age life through the eyes of four high-school buddies: Abby, Beth, Kevin and Harold. When things are out of whack, weird things happen.
The second season of "Real Time with Bill Maher" (11 p.m., HBO) offers political analysis just in time for the Democratic and Republican conventions. Maher, the former host of "Politically Incorrect," offers his unique opinions through monologues, one-on-one interviews, round-table discussions and a weekly editorial.
