REYNOLDS SCHOOLS Board hires Stokes back to top post

The current superintendent decided to retire early.
TRANSFER, Pa. -- Maddox Stokes will again take the reins of the Reynolds School District.
Stokes, who served as schools superintendent for 12 years until the school board decided in 1999 not to renew his contract, has been hired by the board to again take over the top post.
The board, which has a different composition today, voted Wednesday to give him a five-year contract.
Early retirement
Dr. Anthony Trosan, current superintendent, has decided to retire early, leaving two years in his unexpired contract. Trosan took over in July 2001.
He said the district is "back on good financial ground" and he feels comfortable about leaving.
He won't go far.
Trosan, whose last day is Friday, said he likes the area and plans to stay in the community, perhaps working as an educational consultant. He said he would also like to spend more time with his family.
Stokes, who sought and gained a seat on the Reynolds School Board after losing his job as superintendent, left the board in December after choosing not to seek a second term. His salary and other aspects of his new contract are still begin negotiated.
Trosan came to the job at a time when the district was trying to deal with a $2 million budget deficit.
There were a lot of difficult decisions that had to be made to reverse the financial dilemma, but the district now has a positive fund balance, he said.
