2 sentenced for littering

YOUNGSTOWN -- Two men who pleaded no contest last month to littering charges were sentenced Wednesday in municipal court by Judge Robert A. Douglas Jr. Each faced up to 90 days in jail and $750 fine. The judge sentenced Harold Wesson, 71, of Neilson Avenue to three days in jail with a provision, imposed a $100 fine and placed him on one year's probation. Under the provision, Wesson was ordered to report to the jail Aug. 6 -- unless the city housing department confirms his yard is clean and the fine and court costs are paid. The judge placed Occie Berger, 57, of Jacobs Road on one year's probation and ordered him to perform 80 hours of community service and maintain a litter-free property. No fine was imposed.
Five other men who were charged last month with littering and deposit of trash, rubbish or garbage pleaded innocent and their trials are pending.
