Rather than follow the pack, YSU could set the standard

Rather than follow the pack, YSU could set the standard
EDITOR:
Some of the Youngstown State University faculty are talking about "high moral ground" and "doing the fair and right thing" by granting benefits to same-sex domestic partners of faculty and staff. It is seriously amusing to me when relativists talk this way about anything.
On the other hand, maybe this is just a way to appear to hold absolutes and to try to convince the public that homosexual relationships are absolutely a good thing.
I question the concept that YSU must fall in line with other state universities. Perhaps instead YSU could show some moral leadership by opposing domestic partner benefits.
My own opinions are based on the philosophical system that includes the creator God who has revealed himself and has the right to define the absolutes.
The granting of domestic partner benefits would be a statement that homosexual activity is not immoral. Therefore, although I am in favor of benefits to all people, I am against the public support or acceptance of domestic partner (homosexual) benefits.

Playhouse board puts on an 'obscene' performance
EDITOR:
Def. Ob-scene: Offensive to accepted standards of decency. Offensive to the senses.
Thus is the situation currently at the Youngstown Playhouse. Conditions at the Playhouse have been in steady decline ever since Bentley Lenhoff left the theatre in the mid-1980s. There have been spurts of short-lived success. With the Playhouse teetering on the very edge of the cliff, Bentley agreed to return to try and save it from certain destruction.
He then went to work, as a volunteer, and obtained people, resources, and the most valued commodity -- MONEY! He was then promptly stabbed in the back by an ungrateful board of directors, who met secretly to forge a backroom deal to derail all that Bentley had accomplished. Bentley left -- the people, the resources, and the MONEY, lost to a theatre that is in dire need. Never has the corruption of power ever been more evident than with the gross mishandling of Bentley's offer of help. This unfortunate incident adds to the growing list of losses at the Playhouse. With the continuing loss of income, actors, technicians, production personnel, volunteers, audience, prestige, public support, and responsible management, the performing arts community in this area has reached the level of outrage at Playhouse management. It is time for the public to be outraged as well.
The Playhouse belongs to the community and at the present time community property and money are being mismanaged obscenely. It is time for these people to go!

Upset with politics as usual
EDITOR:
In this presidential election year, Mahoning County Democratic Party officials, elected leaders, and precinct committee men and women are trying to urge again the African-American community to vote the Democratic way, as it relates to politics and taxes.
As an African-American county resident and voter, I am truly appalled and outraged by the politics as usual of the Mahoning County Democratic leadership, elected officials and precinct committee men and women, and their vision for the future of Mahoning County.
I, like many African-Americans, believe there are qualified African-American attorneys in Mahoning County to select from as Judge Robert Lisotto's replacement. Once again the Mahoning Democratic Party, its leadership and precinct committee men and women chose politics and the status quo over history and inclusion for the African-American community at the Mahoning County governing level. That's a true shame and loss for all county residents.
