Beaver Twp. EMS to get equipment

NORTH LIMA -- The Beaver Township Emergency Management Services Department will soon have some new equipment.
Margie Brown, township EMS director, recently announced the department has again been awarded a $7,000 grant through the Ohio Department of Public Safety. The department will use the money to purchase new equipment.
That new equipment will include a defibrillator, a device which is typically used to treat an individual when he or she has experienced heart attack.
"It's great to be able to purchase new equipment and equipment that we can use to help our residents when they need it," Brown said.
She said the township received a similar grant last year. But the state specified how the money was to be used, with some going toward training and some going toward equipment.
"This year it's especially nice because we don't have to receive approval from the state for each and everything we do with the money," Brown said. "We can save time and use the money as we need to. We definitely have more flexibility."
The department, which has 40 emergency management technicians, applied for the grant in April and was notified of the award in June. The grant went into effect earlier this month.
