SANDLOTS Wharmby loses in regional title game
Penn Ohio will battle Champion Molded Plastics.
STRUTHERS -- The Diamond Dog Bulldogs did just about everything right while Wharmby Sports played one of its worst games on defense.
As a result, the Bulldogs won the NABF Senior Regional Championship game at Cene Park after 20 hits Sunday.
The Bulldogs advance to the NABF World Series this week in Jackson, Miss.
The game was close, 2-1, going into the last three innings, but the Bulldogs scored four times in both the fifth and sixth innings and added five more runs in the seventh.
Andy Goff, tournament MVP, had three hits, as did Jim Gallagher.
Gary Bucuren, Eric Morrison, Mike Schmidt and Blake Jurena added two hits each.
Aaron Janusey, the top hitter of the tourney, had two hits and drove in his 10th run of the tournament.
James Hoover started and got the win as he allowed just one run in four innings of work.
Eric Drobitij came on and pitched two scoreless innings, allowing one hit -- the only hit he allowed in the tournament. He was named top pitcher.
In four games, the Bulldogs outscored their opponents, 47-7.
Wharmby was led by J.C. McCoy, who had a triple and a double and drove home the only run for Wharmby with the double in the fourth inning.
Wharmby committed a season-high eight errors.

Drobitij was named outstanding pitcher.

WARREN -- Penn Ohio will meet Champion Molded Plastics in the championship series.
Penn Ohio advanced when Lone Wolf Freight Systems forfeited the second game of the best-of-three series.
Champion won its series against Bazetta-Cortland Optimists, 2-0. Ben Barnett was the winning pitcher in the 10-4 win in game two. Mike Sweeney had three hits and drove in two runs. Evan Agona also had two RBIs.
Phil Butch had three hits, including a triple and double while Ryan Stassinis and Cedric Haynes had two each. Haynes hit a three-run homer while Agona hit a two-run shot.
For the Optimists, Greg Bungo was the losing pitcher, and Ryan Monti had three hits.
