PUBLIC SCHOOLS Howland board gets 7 applicants for vacant seat

HOWLAND -- Seven people have applied to fill the vacant school board seat once occupied by Jim Adgate.
At the Howland Board of Education meeting on Monday, board member Ray Tisone announced the applicants. Adgate resigned from the board position earlier this month for unspecified personal reasons.
The board will conduct interviews Wednesday and Thursday for J. Bryan Redmond, Andrew Bednar, Atty. Koula E. Glaros-King, Kenneth Cooper, Warner Taiclet, Gary Meyers, and Dr. Michael Jurenovich.
Atty. Glaros-King, whose practice is based in Warren, was the only applicant in attendance at the board meeting. Her letter of interest says, "I have a firm belief in public schools and our responsibility to support education at every opportunity. My efforts in providing continuing access to higher education have included tutoring students, volunteering for school levy campaigns, raising money for scholarships, serving on scholarship selection committees, and assisting families with college and grant applications."
At the end of the interviews Thursday, the board will set a date for another meeting to select its new member, who will sit on the panel until the position expires Dec. 31, 2005.
