Wharmby Sports loses to Diamond Dog Bulldogs



Wharmby Sports will meet the Ohio Yankees today in a losers bracket game.
STRUTHERS -- A six-run second inning, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Aaron Janusey, lifted the Diamond Dog Bulldogs to a 9-4 victory over Wharmby Sports in the National Amateur Baseball Federation State Tournament on Friday at Cene Park.
It was the first loss for Wharmby in the double-elimination event.
The Bulldogs will take on the West Virginia Huntington Hounds on Cene 1 today at 2 p.m. in a winner's bracket final, while Wharmby goes against the Ohio Yankees on Cene 2 in a loser's bracket game, also at 2.
The winner of the Wharmby-Yankees game will take on the loser of the Hounds-Bulldogs game at 5 p.m. on Cene 1.
Bulldogs know how to score
The Bulldogs, who won their first game 13-0 over the Yankees, now have out-scored opponents 22-1 in two games.
Mike Schmidt and Janusey had two hits each for the winners. Craig Misiewicz went 62/3 innings. He had four strikeouts and walked five and hit two.
Matt Guerrieri had two hits for Wharmby, which rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning; and had the bases loaded when Jim Gallagher came on to get the final out of the game.
John Warren started and took the loss for Wharmby.
In another game, Huntington eliminated the Ontario Cardinals 11-5.
Ohio Yankees 11, Livi Steel 1
Behind the pitching and hitting of Jeff Stoll, the Ohio Yankees eliminated Livi Steel.
Stoll was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs. He allowed just one earned run as he tossed a complete game. Stoll did not walk a batter and had three strikeouts.
Catcher Joe Furner was 4-for-4 at the plate, while Justin Held added three hits. Furner and Held also had doubles.
Justin Byler paced Livi Steel with two hits.
Warren AA
WARREN -- Champion Molded Plastics took a 1-0 lead in the Warren AA League best-of-3 playoff series by defeating Bazetta-Cortland Optimists 15-2.
Ryan Stassinis hit two doubles and a single to spark Molded Plastics. Mark Daisley added three hits, while Tyson Rowland and Chris Green chipped in with two apiece. Nick Carucci worked five innings to pick up the win.
Steve Boxler hit a home run for Optimists and Cedric Turner hit a triple.
The two teams will meet again today at 4 p.m. at Packard MacGregor Field.
