Shurells observe golden jubilee at surprise party

XYOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Shurell, 3855 Timber Lane, were honored at a surprise party July 10 at the Lockwood House in Boardman in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Arrangements for the event were made by the couple's family, Joe and Joanna Shurell of Midland, Mich.; Jerry Shurell and Rene Machado of Gurnee, Ill.; Joyce and Chris DePaola of Austintown; Jayne and Kevin Gallagher of Lisbon; and Jim and Heather Shurell of Boardman. Eight grandchildren complete their family.
Mr. Shurell and the former Kathryn Puskar were married July 10, 1954, at St. Elizabeth Church.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and retired in 2003 from his work as a self-employed barber. He belongs to the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.
Mrs. Shurell was a secretary-bookkeeper with Graef Storm Window Co. prior to retiring in 1955 to raise her family. She belongs to the Cardettes.
The couple are members of St. Christine Church.
