EVIAN, France -- Wendy Doolan shot a 7-under 65 in the final round of the Evian Masters on Saturday to beat top-ranked Annika Sorenstam by a stroke and collect the biggest check of her career.
Doolan finished at 18-under 270 to earn the $375,000 winner's check for the third title of her nine-year career.
She surged to the lead with a five-hole stretch during which she had three birdies and two eagles.
Sorenstam, who entered the day with a three-stroke lead, played the first 15 holes in 2-over.
She then birdied the last three holes before having a putt for eagle on the 18th. However, her putt stopped 6 inches from the hole, leaving her at 271. Lorena Ochoa was another shot back in third after a final-round 68.
Sorenstam had five birdies but also four bogeys in her 71.
Karen Stupples shot a 70 to finish fourth at 273 with Laura Davies (71) fifth at 278. U.S. Women's Open champ Meg Mallon had a 67 to move up to a share of sixth at 279.
Fourteen-year-old amateur Michelle Wie shot a 69 and tied for 33rd at 287.
U.S. Bank Championship
MILWAUKEE -- Brett Quigley carded the day's best round at 6-under-par 64 Saturday and is tied with Carlos Franco and Patrick Sheehan atop the leaderboard after 54 holes at 10-under 200 at the U.S. Bank Championship.
Defending champion Kenny Perry (65) is one shot back after birdies on the final four holes, and Jason Dufner (68) and Scott Verplank (67) are two shots behind the leaders.
Franco shot a 69 and Sheehan a 67. There are 22 golfers within five shots of the lead, and another five, including Brad Faxon, are six back.
Senior British Open
PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland -- Peter Oakley, a club pro from Delaware, shot a 1-over 73 and took a one-stroke lead after the third round, putting him in position to try for his first major title.
Oakley, who had to qualify for the championship, is at 2-under 214 at the windswept Royal Portrush course. He leads Don Pooley and Mark McNulty by one stroke with Tom Kite and Mark James two strokes behind.
Defending champion Tom Watson also carded a 2-over 74 but, at nine shots off the lead, has little chance of holding on to the trophy he won at Turnberry a year ago.
But at least he witnessed some golf history.
Graham Marsh became the first player on the four main golf tours to ace the same hole twice in a tournament when he had a hole-in-one on No. 11. No player on the PGA, Champions, European or Senior European tours had ever accomplished the feat before, tournament officials said.
Marsh, who has won two major seniors titles, holed a 9-iron at the 170-yard 11th on Thursday. On Saturday, he repeated it with an 8-iron.
Irish Open
DROGHEDA, Ireland -- Peter Lonard overcame two rough holes midway through third round to shoot an even-par 72 and lead by one stroke.
Lonard was at 10-under 206. Another Australian, Brett Rumford, was at 207 after a 70, with James Kingston of South Africa another shot back in third after a 72.
Stephen Gallacher of Scotland, second after two rounds and playing with Lonard on Saturday, started well but bogeyed five holes out of eight for a 75. He is five shots off the lead.
Irish hopes of a first home champion since John O'Leary in 1982 remained afloat as Paul McGinley produced the day's best round of 66 to move four shots off the lead. He was one ahead of Padraig Harrington, who had a 3-over 40 for the front nine and a 4-under 31 on the back, where he made six birdies.
