NOTEBOOK | Scrappers

Watch for this: In their existence the Scrappers have drawn nearly a million fans to Eastwood Field, needing just 27,913 spectators to reach the plateau. They average over 4,000 fans per game and should reach the milestone in early August. There will be a special prize package for the millionth fan. Details will be announced by the team soon.
Arm replacement: The Scrappers will add right-handed pitcher Justin Hoyman to the roster later this week. Hoyman was drafted in the second round in June, the 47th overall selection. In 139 innings of work at the University of Florida, Hoyman went 11-2 with a 2.71 ERA. At Florida he struck out 89 and allowed just 38 walks this spring. Hoyman was picked a first-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association. He was a second-team All-American by NCBWA, ESPN/Sports Weekly and Baseball America.
Promoted: Pitchers Dan Cevette and Chris Niesel have been promoted to the Lake County Captains. Cevette (3-0) was second in the NYPL with a 1.25 ERA. Cevette pitched 36 innings and allowed 24 hits and five earned runs. He struck out 39, fourth best in the NYPL. Niesel (2-0) started four games at Mahoning Valley with a 2.30 ERA. He yielded just 13 hits and seven earned runs in his 27.1 innings. Both should join the starting rotation with the Captains.
Five-and-dime: Despite losing Friday, the Scrappers have won 11 of their last 14 starts, the best win streak since the team ended the 1999 season by taking 14 of their last 15. On July 2 the Scrappers were like Woolworth's Department Store (just 5-10), but have a 14-6 mark over the next three weeks.
