Emersons feted at dinner for 50th anniversary



XPOLAND -- Mr. and Mrs. Darwin E. Emerson of 695 E. Western Reserve Road were honored July 24 at a dinner at Soffo's Restaurant and a reception at Trotter's Chase Club House on the occasion of their golden wedding anniversary.
Hosts for the event were the couple's children and their spouses, Cindy and Sam Huffstetler of North Benton; Sandy and Danny Neveu of Virginia Beach, Va.; and Sheri and Joe Duff of Westerville; and four of their five grandchildren. Another daughter, Sue Gesteriah of Columbus, was unable to attend, and two other children, Cris and Angela Emerson, are deceased.
Mr. Emerson and the former Dian L. Shawley were married July 24, 1954, at St. Gabriel Church in Prairie du Chien, Wis. He served in the National Guard for seven years and retired in 1992 from General Motors Corp. in Lordstown, where he was a labor-relations representative. He is employed at Youngstown Steel Equipment Co. in Niles. He is a member of the G.M. Retiree Club and the Saxon Club and is a board member at Trotter's Chase Club.
His wife worked as a registered nurse at Northside Hospital and Cafaro Hospital, both in Youngstown, prior to retiring in 1992. She belongs to the Retired RNs Association, Hospice and the Viking Embroidery Club.
The couple belong to St. Theresa Center in Youngstown.
