Spending and contracts
The city's control board approved these spending items and contracts Thursday:
A $3.74 million contract to Marucci and Gaffney Excavating of Youngstown to build a sanitary-sewer line through Mill Creek Park to eliminate the combined sanitary and storm sewer overflow at Orchard Meadow near the Lily Pond, as required by the settlement of a lawsuit brought against the city by the U.S. and Ohio EPAs.
An agreement with downtown's redevelopment agency, the Youngstown Central Area Community Improvement Corp., to build a new courthouse on West Federal Street for the 7th District Court of Appeals. The city will help CIC get short-term financing.
Severance of $21,181 for James Durkin, a construction foreman in the water department who retired May 31.
Severance of $12,437 for Luther Griffiths, a police officer who retired June 11.
Severance of $1,921 for Nick DePizzo, a sewer plant operator fired April 19 for violating the city's last-chance agreement, which governs employee conduct. Law Director John McNally IV said he could not specify the offense, citing the federal health insurance protection act.
Severance of $554 for Michael Wildes, a driver and laborer in the street department who resigned June 1.
A $173,126 contract for Parella-Pannunzio of Youngstown to replace sidewalks across the city.
Payment of $90,027 to A.P. O'Horo of Liberty for emergency sanitary-sewer repairs on Whippoorwill Lane and Sunnybrook Avenue on the city's West Side.
Payment of $65,000 to Schindler Elevator Co., Girard, for emergency repair of an elevator at the sewer plant.
A $1.16 million grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission for the Kirkmere Creek drainage project.
A $944,380, 20-year, no-interest loan from the Ohio Public Works Commission for a water storage tank on Kirk Road.
Payment of $19,695 to K.T. Lyden Construction, Youngstown, for emergency repair of two catch basins on Division Street.
Paying $4,295 to Joseph Painting of Boardman for work on the municipal court floor.
A contract not to exceed $10,000 with Atty. Angela Milulka for professional services for the city health district's lead abatement program.
A $10,000 forgivable fa & ccedil;ade renovation loan to W.C. Zabel Co. of Youngstown.
A $2,844 forgivable fa & ccedil;ade renovation loan to Automotive Repair and Diagnostics of Youngstown.
A contract with Liberty Tire Services of Ohio, Grove City, Ohio, to remove and dispose of tires and tire shreds stored at the street department for $75 per ton for tires and $49.26 per ton for tire shreds.
A $47,580 contract with Schindler Elevator Co. to maintain elevators in city buildings.
A surety bond of $7,500 and a bid bond of $800 for Paul Conley of Contay Properties of Youngstown.
