Arraigned after standoff
LORDSTOWN -- Brian Petrosky, 27, of Dove Drive was arraigned Thursday on charges of domestic violence, resisting arrest and cultivating marijuana.
Petrosky posted a $500,000 surety bond for all three charges. His pretrial is set for 9:45 a.m Sept. 14.
Petrosky was arrested Tuesday after an hourlong standoff with police in the Imperial Trailer Park on Dove Drive.
Beaten with guns
NILES -- A Warren man refused medical treatment after he was reportedly beaten with guns by men he knew.
The 24-year-old Oakland Avenue man said he was visiting friends at the Days Inn on U.S. Route 422 and was leaving just after noon Thursday when five men approached him, reports said. The Warren man told police he started to run, but the men caught him and began beating his head and face with their fists and guns.
The group was gone by the time police arrived, reports said. The man was uncooperative and refused to be taken to a hospital, police said.
4 complaints received
NILES -- Police received only four noise complaints from Weathersfield Township residents during an outdoor country music concert at a local business.
McMenamy's on U.S. Route 422 hosted the David Allen Coe show Thursday evening, the second outdoor concert in less than a week at the new venue.
In recent weeks, neighbors have complained to police and township trustees about the noise coming from the club, which was recently annexed into the city of Niles.
Business owners pledged to work with local officials and police to lower the volume and avoid disturbing neighbors.
Police records show one call came from a Weathersfield Township resident, and the other three came from undisclosed addresses.
Weathersfield police reported no problems.
Boil-water alert
HUBBARD -- The city has issued a water-boiling alert for all water customers through noon Saturday. Kenneth Graben, superintendent of water and wastewater, said a 12-inch waterline ruptured Thursday morning. Crews are replacing 20 feet of the line in the 600 block of Myron Street. Although only 10 residents and one business were without water while repairs were made, the boiling alert is citywide. Graben urged residents to boil water for one minute if it will be used for food preparation and consumption.
Sobriety checkpoint
WARREN -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with five area police departments, will set up a sobriety checkpoint from 9:30 p.m. today to 1:30 a.m. Saturday at Milepost 19 on U.S. Route 422 in Weathersfield Township.
Lt. George Williams said sobriety checkpoints are designed to encourage those who will be consuming alcoholic beverages to plan for a designated driver or other arrangements.
Police departments cooperating in the checkpoint are Warren, McDonald, Weathersfield, Niles and Bazetta. The Ohio Department of Transportation will provide support as well.
Driving under suspension
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lachon Phillips, 27, of School Street N.W., Warren was arrested around 2:30 a.m. today on the South Side on charges of driving under suspension and playing loud music.
When Phillips' Cadillac was stopped on Market Street, he identified himself as Terrence Warren and gave police a Social Security number that didn't jibe with that name, reports show.
He then identified himself as the owner of the Cadillac and a check of its license plate number revealed that Phillips' driver's license is under two suspensions, police said. Phillips was booked into the Mahoning County Jail pending arraignment today in municipal court.
