Officials award contracts for bridge replacements
Another bridge will be repaired in Pine Township.
MERCER -- Replacement of the bridge on Haywood Street, West Middlesex, should begin Aug. 9 and is expected to be completed by Nov. 12.
At their meeting Thursday, Mercer County commissioners awarded the $216,729 contract to Delta Constructors, Hermitage, for the job. County Engineer Mark Miller said Delta's bid was under the estimates as well as being the lowest of five opened July 8.
They also accepted the only bid received for repair of another bridge, this one in Pine Township. Shingledecker's Welding, Franklin, bid $156,051 to repair a bridge on Daugherty Road.
The bridge, built in 1953, is deteriorating, and the repair will increase the load limit so that school buses will be able to use it again, Miller said. The job will be done with state liquid fuels tax money.
