Metros shut out Bud-Pal Joey's for sweep



YOUNGSTOWN -- Jeremy Hedogore scattered four hits and struck out seven as Youngstown Metros blanked Bud's-Pal Joeys 4-0 Thursday in the Class AA League playoffs at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
The Metros will take on Roth Brothers beginning Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Pemberton-Donnell in a best-of-5 series for the league championship.
Metros swept a two-game series from Bud's-Pal Joeys to earn that spot for the title series.
A pair of walks and singles by Jared Bogan, Jonathan Habuda, Marty Heben and Hedogore gave the Metros a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning.
Bud's threatened in the second inning. With one out, Kinsey Henderson singled, Shane Davis walked and Jason Jablonski singled to load the bases. Eric Barone then hit into a double play.

WARREN -- Penn Ohio opened the league's best-of-3 semifinal playoff series with an 8-5 victory over Lone Wolf Freight Systems. Game 2 is set for Saturday at 7 p.m.
Penn Ohio scored five runs in the eighth inning to seal the victory, with pitcher Jim Palumbo getting the decision in relief of Craig Bohyer.
Jason Elias had two hits for the winners while Jason Martin and Jim Newbrough each drove home two runs.
For Lone Wolf, Brian Smith, Pat Stantial and Justin Eschman each had two hits while Stantial and Eschman each drove in two runs.
Andrew Grunder suffered the loss.
In today's game at 7 p.m. at Packard MacGregor field, Bazetta-Cortland Optimists plays Champion Molded Plastics in the other semifinal.
