YOUNGSTOWN -- A 58-year-old East Philadelphia Avenue man suspected of killing his girlfriend has been indicted by a Mahoning County grand jury.
Edward C. Anderson faces a charge of murder with a firearm specification in the July 15 death of Mary M. Thompson, 37, who authorities say lived with Anderson at the North Side address.
If he is convicted, Anderson faces mandatory sentences of 15 years to life in prison in the murder and three years in the use of a firearm.
Police say Thompson was shot four times in her left side inside 357 E. Philadelphia. She reportedly walked to a neighbor's house, where she collapsed in the driveway. Thompson died shortly after arriving at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
A neighbor reported hearing banging noises coming from inside the couple's home but paid little attention because he frequently heard fights there.
About 20 minutes after hearing the noises, a witness told police he saw Anderson drive away in his Cadillac, which has "Fast Eddie" emblazoned across the trunk. The witness then reported seeing Thompson walk out of the house and walk through the front yard.
Officers responding found a trail of blood from near the couch in Thompson's living room at 357 to 369 E. Philadelphia.
When police saw Anderson's car parked in front of his home later that night, they used a loud-speaker system to call him outside. A search of his house turned up an assortment of ammunition, which police confiscated.
