Man arrested in shooting of car

YOUNGSTOWN -- A man on a bicycle fired a shot into a car stopped at a traffic light on the South Side this morning.
A South Side couple in their 60s reported their car was shot at around 6:10 a.m. when they stopped for the red light at South and Williamson avenues, police said.
A man riding a purple bicycle pulled alongside the driver's side of the gold-tone Saturn at the light then fired one shot that penetrated near the rear license plate, police said.
The victims drove to the police station downtown to report what happened, and a police dispatcher broadcast a description of the suspect. Within minutes, Patrolmen Ken Ruse and Rick Baldwin arrested Jason Winston, 19, of West Indianola Avenue, on Delason Avenue near Heasley Street in the shooting.
Winston was arrested on a charge of felonious assault, police said.
Municipal court records show that Winston was convicted of attempted aggravated trafficking in drugs in February 2003, amended from aggravated trafficking, a felony.
Judge Robert P. Milich sentenced Winston to 180 days in jail, suspended 170 and gave him credit for eight days already served. The judge also placed Winston on two years' probation. Records show that Winston still owes $150 of the $250 fine assessed in that case.
