Water alert lifted
YOUNGSTOWN -- Boil-water alerts that were in place on the 2700 block of Dearborn Avenue and the 2700 block of Robinwood Avenue have been lifted.
The city water department said this morning that tests showed all drinking water samples from the area to be safe.
The boil order was issued after a waterline was relocated Monday. Any questions should be directed to the city water department at (330) 742-8765.
Marijuana farm sentencing
YOUNGSTOWN -- Pamela Woodward, 47, of Granada Avenue was sentenced Wednesday afternoon in Cleveland federal court to two years in prison for her part in a marijuana farm that once filled a downtown warehouse.
U.S. District Judge James S. Gwin also ordered that Woodward, originally from England, be deported once out of prison.
All six defendants indicted in March were charged with conspiracy to cultivate with intent to distribute marijuana and cultivating marijuana (in excess of 1,000 plants). Three remain to be sentenced.
Over a three-month period officers saw Woodward, in her vehicle, regularly entering the warehouse at 814 Marshall St. using a remote garage door opener.
Purse theft charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A woman who left her pink purse on top of a gas pump quickly returned to the station on Market Street Wednesday afternoon and saw the purse inside a car, then questioned its three occupants.
The woman followed the car and notified police, who stopped it on East Florida Avenue.
The driver, Erika M. Carrillo, 19, of East Lucius Avenue, was arrested on a theft charge. Her passengers, a 16-year-old East Lucius Avenue boy and 15-year-old Hudson Avenue boy, were each issued a summons charging them with theft and released.
Man withdraws guilty plea
YOUNGSTOWN -- A judge has allowed Raymond Crites to withdraw his plea of guilty to a charge of voluntary manslaughter.
Crites, 30, of Austintown, was sentenced to 10 years in prison by Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court after he pleaded guilty two weeks ago to killing 33-year-old John Deiley.
Crites said in subsequent court documents that he had been coerced into the plea by his former defense attorney, Anthony P. Meranto, who has denied it. Crites also wanted to back out of the plea because the judge sentenced him to 10 years when the prosecutor recommended only nine.
Judge Krichbaum approved Crites' request Wednesday and appointed Atty. Mark Lavelle to represent him. He also ordered the Youngstown Police Department to return $720 it seized from Crites when he was arrested.
Woman is taken home
CAMPBELL -- A woman who was last seen July 8 in Andover was found in Campbell by a concerned citizen, who took her home Wednesday, Andover police said.
Debra Carr-Tuckish, 38, was referred to Campbell police for follow-up. Andover police said her car was stolen and she had been held against her will.
Police on duty this morning had no more information on the case.
Springfield lunch prices
NEW MIDDLETOWN -- The Springfield school board revised a few of its cafeteria prices Tuesday.
The board raised the intermediate/high school lunch price from $1.90, last year's cost, to $2 for this coming school year. The elementary school lunch price went from $1.70 last year to $1.75 this year.
Breakfast prices at the intermediate/high school and adult lunch costs will remain at $1 and $2.50, respectively. The cost of the chicken basket at the intermediate/high school also will remain $2.30. The price of milk was increased from 35 cents to 40 cents.
Forgery charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- Marty Murphy, 47, of Market Street was arrested on a forgery charge Wednesday afternoon after he tried to pay for $5 worth of gas with a suspected bogus $50 bill at Speed Check, 1505 McGuffey Road, police said.
Music in the Park
BOARDMAN -- Boardman Park will continue its Music in the Park series from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday with performances by local teen singers, dancers and bands at the Maag Outdoor Arts Theater.
The event is free and open to the public. Those attending should bring lawn chairs or blankets.
