F.N.B. profits rise
HERMITAGE -- F.N.B. Corp. earned $15.1 million, or 32 cents a share, in the second quarter, compared with earnings of $14.1 million, or 30 cents a share, for the same quarter last year. This past quarter's results included a gain of $2.7 million, or 5 cents a share, on the sale of two branches, said F.N.B., the parent of First National Bank of Pennsylvania.

Mitsubishi plans layoffs
NORMAL, Ill. -- Mitsubishi Motors will lay off 1,200 workers this fall at its only U.S. plant, trimming car production as part of a worldwide revival plan the automaker hopes will pare mounting debts, the company announced Wednesday. The Japanese automaker said production will be cut from two shifts to one in October at the Normal, Ill., plant, which now has more than 3,100 workers.
Coors, Molson to merge
DENVER -- Adolph Coors Co., the third biggest U.S. brewer, and Canadian brewer Molson Inc. announced plans to merge Thursday in a deal aimed at helping them compete against the world's beer-making giants.
The combined company would have annual revenues of about $6 billion and would rank fifth in the world by brewing volume, the companies said in a statement. Coors Chief Executive Leo Kiely would become CEO and Molson Chairman Eric Molson would become chairman.
