CLASS AA Metros win 2-1 in playoffs

Shevies beats GGI twice in league play in Warren.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Greg Mentrek scattered four hits as Youngstown Metros edged Buds/Pal Joeys 2-1 Wednesday in the Class AA League playoffs at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Metros took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, then added another run in the fourth. Buds got its only run in the sixth.
Gary Hinkson and Jeremy Hedegore each had two hits for the winners. Eric Barone had two hits for Buds/Pal Joeys.
Warren AA League
Nick Pompeo had four hits, including a double, as Shevies defeated Gibson-Governor Insurance 18-12.
Christian Thoma added a double and two singles for Shevies while Nick Zacjackowski, Josh Miller and Cecil Haynes all singled twice.
For GGI, Todd McKinney hit a solo home run and a single. Rick DiMuzio added three hits, including a triple and a double, and Joe O'Hara doubled and singled. John Schiraldi singled twice.
Shevies defeated GGI 5-4 in the completion of a suspended game. Josh Miller tripled and drove in three runs for Shevies while Matt Vadas doubled.
Thoma and Cecil Haynes had three hits each, and Nick Pompeo and T.J. Trevis had two each.
DiMuzio doubled twice and singled for GGI, and Ron DeJulio and Marty Kanetsky added doubles.
Lone Wolf 14, D & amp;K 5
WARREN -- Justin Kurilichek hit a grand slam for Lone Wolf Freight Systems.
Winning pitcher Brian Smith struck out five for Lone Wolf (12-11). Rob Bauman had three hits while Adam Morgan, Scott Brewster, Frank Tempesta and Jerry King had two each.
Morgan, who doubled twice, and King had two RBIs apiece. Tempesta also doubled.
For D & amp;K (8-16), Gary Gerba had two hits; Mike Lepro tripled, and Branden Keck doubled.
In a second game, Morgan and Tempesta had homers and two RBIs in Lone Wolf's 5-2 win.
Kyle Irish was the winning pitcher, and Pat Stantial had two hits.
For D & amp;K, Anthony Jones was the losing pitcher; Gary Gerba had two hits, and Keck doubled.
Penn Ohio 6, CMP 3
Jason Elias and Mike McKee had two hits each for Penn Ohio (16-8). Elias drove in three runs while Shawn Lucas had two RBIs. Elias and Ryan Moffett doubled while Glenn Morris was the winning pitcher.
Dave Fleischer took the loss for Champion Molded Plastics (23-2), and Phil Butch doubled.
