Wharmby drops first game



The Falcons shut out Ohio Thunder.
STRUTHERS -- The Cincinnati Gators knocked Wharmby Sports from the ranks of the undefeated with a 6-5 victory Tuesday in the Connie Mack State Baseball Tournament at Cene Park.
Tyler Stovall had a single, double and a triple with three RBI for the winners.
Winning pitcher Brian Hangbers went six-plus innings for the win with three strikeouts.
Jake Gross was 4-for-4 four for Wharmby while Billy Herman and Lou Kopachy added two hits each.
Wharmby, trailing by two going into the bottom of the seventh, got the first two men on but Sean Munninghoff came on and was able to pin down the save for the Gators.
Wharmby 5, GlenOak 1
Wharmby scored four times in the top of the seventh inning.
J.C. McCoy had three hits, including a two-run double in the seventh inning rally.
Pat Oman had a double and a single while Gross added two hits for Wharmby.
Andrew Chrobak struck out seven in his 41/3 innings while the win went to Shawn Valenly, his second straight win in relief.
For Glen Oak, Brandon Maag had a single and a double.
Falcons 11, Thunder Orange 0
The Astro Falcons scored six times in the top of the first inning and cruised to the win over the Ohio Thunder Orange.
Chad Baker allowed just two hits and had nine strikeouts. He also added two hits while Adam Wigley and Brett Pitzulo had a pair of singles each. One of Pitzulo's hits was a double.
Wigley and Pitzulo had three runs batted in.
Ohio Lightning 10, Koch-Line Drive 0
The Lightning used a 12-hit attack to hand Koch/Line their first defeat.
Zach Dupay had three hits, two of them doubles and drove home three while winning pitcher Dan Janik allowed just four singles and had five strikeouts for the winners.
Adam Boris had two of the hits for Koch/Line Drive while Jeff Claar suffered the defeat on the mound.
