School board to mull levy
CANFIELD -- The school board is set to consider asking voters for more money to pay for maintenance, repairs and other capital improvements. Superintendent Dante Zambrini said the board most likely will discuss at tonight's school board meeting seeking voter approval to increase a 0.4-mill levy that raises about $140,000 a year. The board has until Aug. 19 to pass the two resolutions needed to put a levy on the Nov. 2 ballot. Zambrini said the board hasn't determined the size of the increase it might seek. He noted that revenue from the capital improvements levy couldn't be used for district operations or teacher or administrator salaries. The board is set to meet at 6 p.m. at the board office next to Canfield Village Middle School.

Anthony Figueroa, 22, pleaded guilty in May to robbery and a firearm specification in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court. The charge was reduced from aggravated robbery as part of the plea agreement.
Judge R. Scott Krichbaum imposed a three-year sentence for the robbery and a mandatory three-year term for the gun specification. By law, the sentences must be consecutive.
The judge also ordered the sentences served consecutively to a one-year sentence he imposed on Figueroa last year for an unrelated weapons violation.
