Organization to help troops' families with home repairs

The program could be continued, depending on demand.
VIENNA -- An organization of local landlords and The Home Depot have teamed up to assist with home repairs for families of local service personnel deployed overseas.
Applications for assistance may be picked up and returned to the 910th Family Support Center at the air base. The assistance could include replacing a faucet, fixing a clogged drain, painting or yardwork.
Volunteers
About 30 plumbers, electricians and contractors have volunteered to provide free labor July 31 and Aug. 1 through the program, said Bill Kruppa, a member of the Trumbull County Real Estate Investor's Association board. Home Depot has agreed to provide materials, he said.
The only requirements are that the repairs be necessary and the house be in Trumbull County.
The association may arrange more volunteer workdays depending on demand, Kruppa said.
He said the group wanted to do something for the troops.
"Nobody seems to be doing anything anymore," he said. "When we first went over they got a lot of support, and now the support seems to have burned off."
