Scrappers sweep DH from Staten Island

Mahoning Valley returned home with a winning record.
STATEN ISLAND, N. Y. -- For the first time since the first week of the season, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers have a winning record.
The Scrappers (16-15) defeated the Staten Island Yankees twice Monday, 7-3 and 4-1.
The Scrappers opened the season by defeating the Auburn Doubledays twice before losing three straight. Mahoning Valley has won eight of its last 11 starts.
Nearly every player on the roster had a hand in the sweep of the Yankees (8-20).
Argenis Reyes went 5-for-9 as the lead-off batter, Tim Montgomery collected three hits including a home run and a double while Marshall Szabo went 3-for-4 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Brett Parker doubled twice to drive in four runs. Kyle Collins (4-1), Roger Lincoln, Travis Foley and Hector Santana combined on a seven-hitter, yielding just one run.
In the second game, Mike Butia doubled in two runs and Fernando Pacheco went 2-for-4. Ryan Knippschild (1-0) went the first six innings. He allowed seven hits and one run.
The Yankees had won three in a row until the sweep.
The Scrappers play host to Hudson Valley (19-12) in a three-game series at Eastwood Field today, beginning at 7:05 p.m.
