BASEBALL
Babe Ruth (ages 14-15)
Youngstown 11, Zanesville 1 -- Steve Gruver threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts and he had two hits in the state tournament game in Zanesville.
Youngstown 11, Springfield 0 -- Matt Katich threw a three-hitter with seven strikeouts while Corey Collins homered and tripled.
Babe Ruth (age 13)
Youngstown 16, Cincinnati 3 -- Shawn Roman threw a complete game and had a triple and two doubles.
Youngstown 14, Mt. Vernon 0 -- Shane Wagner and Jaymee Shephard combined on a two-hitter.
Tri-T colt (ages 15-17)
Boardman Boosters 5, Niles Dunnigan Photography 3 -- Tony Sferra was the winning pitcher in relief, giving up no hits and four strikeouts. Sferra's two hits included a double. Paul Oslin, Corey Keller and Ryan Walters each had singles. For Niles, Ryan Simms' two hits included a double.
Boardman Boosters 9, Canfield 3 -- Bradley Moody pitched a complete game. Rick Olesky's three hits included a triple and double as Boardman won the Central Division. Corey Keller's three hits included a double. Bill Dionisio tripled and doubled. Other team members are Craig Bletso, Mike Calcagni, Adam Chizmar, Jeff Skrinyer, Tim Ortega, David Walker, Matt Carhart and Dave Peters. Team was managed by Bob Bletso. Coaches are Tom Ortega, Chris Bletso, Mike Oslin, Tony Sferra. For Canfield, Jim Peance's two hits included a double.
SOFTBALL
Little League (ages 11-12)
Poland 14, Clyde 2 -- Jenna Modic tossed a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the state tournament game. She also had four hits. Nicole White drove in five runs with a triple and two doubles. Jordan Palumbo's three hits included a triple and double, and she brought home two runs. Macy Ucchino had a triple and three RBIs. Jessica D'Apolito had a double and two RBIs.
Poland 7, Tallmadge 2 -- In the state semifinal game, Jordan Palumbo scattered four hits and struck out eight batters. Her three hits included a homer and triple, and she had three RBIs. Margo Ucchino and Megan Hirschbeck had two hits apiece. Vickie Farris made an unassisted double play. Wednesday at noon, Poland will play Tallmadge or Fairlawn for the state crown.
