Democrats' platform can'twithstand today's challenges
EDITOR:
Last week, the Democrats drafted their platform. It is a platform of a weaker America based on the failed notions of the United Nations, compromised morality and higher taxes on businesses that impede their ability to hire and maintain workers.
Terry McAuliffe, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, has even gone so far as to agree with the wild assertions of filmmaker Michael Moore that we only went into Afghanistan to build a gas pipeline, a Clinton administration plan that was abandoned in 1998.
John Kerry wants to be president and yet these are the ideas that he espouses. Throughout history, every time our country has faced a pivotal challenge, we have risen to it and succeeded to become more prosperous. We face that kind of challenge again, and the liberals don't even see the evil that is staring them right in the face. Some don't see it because they're misinformed, some because they are blinded by their own agendas, and some are so jaded that they just don't care.
Al Franken likes to call conservatives shameless. Well, I am shameless in my opposition to the left's shameful agenda of appeasement toward a threat that -- if allowed -- will rob us of the freedom to even go to the store without fear of attack. And when we are no longer free to live our lives without fear, we are no longer free.

Clinton will be rememberedfor the peace and prosperity
EDITOR:
The July 6 letter attacking former President Clinton's book was laughable. The writer suggests that the book was somehow "planned" for release at the same time Ronald Reagan was laid to rest; the writer goes on to imply that Reagan was a better leader of our nation.
As a business owner and someone who has experienced several presidencies, I see Clinton as the most intelligent and best president in my lifetime. He took the time to study the "intelligence" (or lack thereof) before sending our military into harm's way. His diplomacy and resolve were well recognized by world leaders.
The writer goes on to call Clinton a punk. A "punk" is someone who defies the United Nations and shoots from the hip. This name also applies to a person who has the audacity to run for president when he cannot even name heads of state and whose brother and Supreme Court judges can be coerced into fixing an American election. Other examples for this description would be the total disregard for the economy, children and the middle class.
Getting back to the Reagan era: Let us remember the Iran-Contra scandal, Star Wars and a president who sought advice from his wife's interpretation of astrological signs. A familiar term of that presidency was "I do not recall."
Clinton's popularity continues because of the eight years of peace and prosperity. A witchhunt by Ken Starr costing millions to the taxpayers resulted in the revelation of an affair, which pales in comparison to the mess we all see under the current administration.
Getting back to the writing of books: It is unlikely Bush would enjoy such demand as an author and speaker; basic communication skills are required for this. Thus, according to the writer, more money can again be saved for candy and gum!
How very pathetic -- this being said while many Americans cannot find work and would be happy just to have a decent meal. It is hoped, after November, Americans will once again see prosperity and be proud of their country and their leaders.
