Boy struck by van
SALEM -- A 1-year-old Salem boy is in satisfactory condition today at Akron Children's Hospital after he was struck by a van in East Alley off Franklin Avenue about 12:24 p.m. Monday.
Kyle A. Goins of East Fourth Street had injuries to his head, arm and leg.
Police said the boyfriend of Goins' mother moved the van forward without knowing the boy was in front of the vehicle. Police said no charges will be filed.
Man enters plea in brawl
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Brandon Brown, 20, of Florence Avenue, Youngstown, pleaded innocent Monday in municipal court here to charges stemming from a brawl early Sunday.
Police charged Brown with obstruction of justice, disorderly conduct and underage drinking. He is free on a $2,500 surety bond. A pretrial was set for 1 p.m. Aug. 5.
Police said Brown had been injured in a brawl before they were called to the University Club. He was told to go home, but became involved in another scuffle.
Police from three other jurisdictions helped East Liverpool police. A gun was found in the street after several shots were fired. No one was injured.
Hospitalized after crash
ENON VALLEY, Pa. -- One man was hurt in a crash on state Route 351, Little Beaver Township.
Pennsylvania State Police said David McClain, 18, of Enon Valley was a passenger in a car that crashed into a tree about 6:08 p.m. Monday.
Driver Austin Steiner, 19, and passengers Caleb Bowser, 23, and an unknown woman were also in the car. Steiner had no injuries and it was unknown if the other two had injuries.
McClain was in stable condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center this morning.
Clothes, money stolen
FARRELL, Pa. -- A man was left without his money and his clothes after a robbery in the 500 block of Wallis Avenue.
Southwest Regional Police said two men asked the victim for directions, but then put a gun to his side and ordered him between two houses at 9:39 p.m. Sunday. They took his possessions and clothing and ordered him to remain on the ground until they left, police said.
Search for armed robbers
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Police continue their search for two men who robbed the clerk at Hy-Way Oil on Wilmington Road on Friday. The clerk tried to fight off two armed, masked men but was unsuccessful.
Police said one man was wielding a gun and the other a knife and both demanded money when they entered the store at 10 p.m. Friday. The attendant struggled with the robber holding the handgun until the attendant fell to the ground and the robber took money from a desk in the office.
A second person also unsuccessfully tried to stop the man with the knife. The two robbers then fled.
Police described the two robbers as white men, ages 18 to 24, one standing 6 feet tall and the other 5 feet 5 inches tall. Both were wearing black shirts and tan pants, ball caps and black bandannas across their faces, police said.

New bus for South Range
NORTH LIMA -- The South Range Board of Education has bought a new school bus.
The board, at its regular monthly meeting Monday, agreed to pay $60,000 for the 65-passenger vehicle. Administrators said the bus would have cost more, but the district was able to save about $1,500 through a trade-in arrangement with the Myers Equipment Co., Berlin Township, the company that provided the new bus.
It should be ready by the 2005-06 school year, school officials said.
ODOT lane restrictions
The Ohio Department of Transportation will impose lane restrictions today and Wednesday on roads in Austintown and Canfield while crews work on traffic signals.
Restrictions will be imposed on Herbert/Shields Road at the state Route 46 intersection in Canfield, Mahoning Avenue at the state Route 11 intersection and London Drive at the state Route 46 intersection in Austintown. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers.
Fatal bike crash
YOUNGSTOWN -- Patrick T. Braun, 7, of Price Road, riding his bicycle near his West Side home Monday evening, died after being hit by a 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by a 39-year-old Glacier Heights Road woman, police said.
The accident, which happened just before 7 p.m. in the 1800 block of Price Road, remains under investigation.
