Mother of girl hurt in wreck sues over injuries

TOLEDO (AP) -- The mother of a 13-year-old girl injured in a four-vehicle crash that killed six people in June is suing two of the drivers and a trucking company.
Brandi Scott was riding in a Cadillac Escalade when a tractor-trailer hit it head-on, sending it off a bridge. The Escalade landed upside down in a creek, and everyone in the vehicle except Scott died.
Scott's mother, Michelle LeFlore of Sterling Heights, Mich., is suing Brian Woody, who authorities say triggered the crash; the driver of the tractor-trailer, Shawn Tuffelmire; and his employer, J.D.C. Logistics Inc. of Milwaukee.
The lawsuit was filed Friday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court. It asks for more than $75,000 in compensation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Woody, 28, of Toledo started the chain-reaction collision when his sport utility vehicle went left of center on state Route 2 and struck a tractor-trailer, causing the semi to hit Scott's SUV and another car.
Those killed included the driver of the Escalade, Brandi Scott's father Darryl K. Scott, and five other passengers. Brandi Scott was flown to a Toledo hospital. A hospital official said Saturday that Scott had been released to a rehabilitation facility.
A report released last week by the patrol showed Woody had Valium and evidence of marijuana use in his bloodstream.
The patrol determined his blood alcohol level was 0.025 percent at the time of the crash, well below the state's legal limit of 0.08.
No charges have been filed.
