Guilty of drug violation
PITTSBURGH -- Tammy Reid, 37, of Pin Oak Drive, New Castle, pleaded guilty in federal court to a charge of conspiracy to violate federal narcotics laws. Assistant United States Attorney Tina O. Miller said Reid conspired to distribute crack cocaine out of her apartment. She will be sentenced at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 6.
Orientation planned for savings program
LISBON -- Community Action Agency of Columbiana County Inc. will host an orientation at 6 p.m. Wednesday for county residents interested in the Individual Development Account Program.
IDA is a matched savings account program available to low- and moderate-income workers interested in buying a first home, starting a small business or pursuing post-secondary education.
Participants who complete the program, save $500 and succeed in buying a home, starting a business or continuing their education will receive an additional $1,000 in match funding.
Financial and asset-building training will be provided to all participants.

Stolen car spotted
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 1987 Honda Accord stolen in Beaver Township and being driven by a man suspected of theft offenses in Youngstown and Struthers was spotted Saturday afternoon on the South Side. Police followed the car, which sped up and went through stop signs and red lights before the engine gave out on West Glenaven Avenue. The driver, Alfred Bunting Jr., 29, of Bennington Avenue, was arrested on charges of theft (shoplifting), driving under suspension, receiving stolen property and failure to comply with a police order.
Weapons charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- Three men in hooded sweat shirts despite the temperature's being 75 degrees caught the attention of police on Bennington Avenue around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Two of the men got away, but the third, Terrill J. Blackshear, 18, of Lansdowne Boulevard, was arrested on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a dangerous ordnance. Police said Blackshear had an assault rifle stuffed down the waistband of his pants.
Homeowner seminars
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown Area Urban League will host the first of this month's series of homeownership-financial literacy seminars at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. YOUNGSTOWN -- A representative of U.S. Sen. George V. Voinovich will have office hours from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the lower-level hearing room of the Mahoning County Common Pleas Court building.
