Tigers 4, Yankees 2
DETROIT -- Detroit surpassed its 2003 wins total behind the pitching of Nate Robertson and the hitting of Carlos Pena. The Tigers improved to 44-47. Last year, the Tigers set an AL record for losses by going 43-119. Robertson (9-4) allowed two runs and six hits in eight innings. Ugueth Urbina finished for his 15th save. Pena was 3-for-3, including a solo homer off Jon Lieber (7-6).
Red Sox 6, Angels 2
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Curt Schilling won his fourth straight decision and David Ortiz homered and drove in four runs for Boston. Schilling (12-4) allowed one run and three hits in eight innings. He struck out seven and walked none, retiring 17 of his last 19 batters. Ortiz hit a go-ahead, three-run homer and had an RBI single that raised his league-leading RBIs total to 83.
Athletics 5, White Sox 3
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Mark Mulder pitched three-hit ball into the ninth inning to become the first 13-game winner in the majors, and Bobby Crosby hit a two-run homer. Mulder (13-2) won his 11th consecutive decision, out-pitching Esteban Loaiza (8-5).
Devil Rays 7, Orioles 2
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Mark Hendrickson pitched a four-hitter for his second career complete game and Carl Crawford hit a two-run triple during a five-run sixth inning for Tampa Bay. Melvin Mora homered for Baltimore in his return from the 15-day disabled list.
Royals 4, Twins 3, 10 innings
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Dee Brown's bases-loaded single in the 10th inning gave Kansas City the victory. Grant Balfour (3-1) walked the bases loaded before giving way to Aaron Fultz, who allowed Brown's one-out single to center. Matt Stairs hit a two-run single in the eighth inning, giving Kansas City a 3-1 lead.
Rangers 7, Blue Jays 5
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Mark Teixeira's grand slam keyed a six-run eighth inning and Texas handed Toronto its sixth straight loss. Doug Brocail (1-1) allowed one hit over 11/3 innings and struck out three to earn his first major league victory since July 23, 2000, for Detroit.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Astros 5, Padres 3
HOUSTON -- Roger Clemens won his first game in three weeks, stopping Houston's four-game losing streak and giving Phil Garner his first win as the Astros' manager. Clemens (11-3) got his 321st win, moving three behind Nolan Ryan and Don Sutton, who share 12th place on the career list.
Cardinals 10, Reds 4
CINCINNATI -- Mike Matheny drove in three runs and Jeff Suppan won his third straight start. Edgar Renteria and Reggie Sanders hit solo homers for the Cardinals, who won for the 11th time in 13 games.
Mets 6, Phillies 1
NEW YORK -- Al Leiter pitched six shutout innings, and Mike Cameron and Vance Wilson hit back-to-back homers in the fifth off Brett Myers (5-7). Braden Looper got four outs for his 19th save in 21 chances.
Rockies 10, Giants 9
DENVER -- Jeromy Burnitz and Preston Wilson each homered off Matt Herges (4-4) and Aaron Miles capped Colorado's four-run ninth inning with an RBI single. San Francisco led 9-6 heading into the bottom of the ninth after Deivi Cruz hit a tie-breaking homer to lead off the eighth and Michael Tucker and Barry Bonds hit solo shots in the top half.
Brewers 4, Cubs 2
CHICAGO -- Chris Capuano pitched six innings and Scott Podsednik had three hits for Milwaukee. Kerry Wood allowed one run and four hits in six innings, but the Brewers went ahead with two runs in the seventh off Francis Beltran (2-2) and Kent Mercker.
Braves 16, Expos 5
ATLANTA -- Eli Marrero hit a grand slam in the first inning and Chipper Jones finished a double short of the cycle. J.D. Drew extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games with two singles.
Dodgers 10, Diamondbacks 3
PHOENIX -- Cesar Izturis drove in a career-best four runs and Adrian Beltre hit his 23rd homer as Los Angeles completed a four-game sweep. Jayson Werth had a career-high four hits to back Jose Lima.
