Facing multiple charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police arrested a city man on receiving stolen property, shoplifting and a multitude of traffic charges Saturday afternoon after they said he led them on a 45 mph chase through the city's South Side, running eight stop signs and a red light and narrowly missing several other vehicles while driving a stolen car.
Arrested was Alfred Bunting Jr., 29, of Bennington Avenue, who was charged with fleeing police, driving under suspension and violating his parole from Columbus on robbery and receiving stolen property charges. The chase began on Summer Street at 2:12 p.m. and ended in the 100 block of West Glenaven Avenue, where the car's engine gave out, police said.
Loud-music offense
YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man was charged with his fifth loud-music offense Saturday evening on the city's South Side.
Police in the 3400 block of Market Street said they could hear the car driven by Zachary Howell, 27, of Lincoln Park Drive, coming with a loud thumping noise from its stereo clearly audible from more than 50 feet away, and they stopped him in the first block of East Auburndale Avenue.
They impounded the car, which they said reeked of marijuana, and Howell was charged with illegally conveying a drug into a detention facility when deputy sheriffs found marijuana on him at the Mahoning County jail. Police said Howell has been convicted on the loud music charge four times.
