WARREN -- A trip to hear the rock band Insane Clown Posse almost left a 23-year-old Canadian stranded, however, a city police officer saved the day.
While providing security inside the city municipal building, Officer Frank Tempesta was the first to see Andrew Row walk through the door early Thursday morning.
"He had tears in his eyes," Tempesta said. "He said he came from Calgary to hear ICP perform at Nelson Ledges this weekend and someone stole his bags."
The bags not only held Row's clothes and personal belongings but contained his Greyhound Bus ticket home.
"He only had $20 left, which he had in his pants pocket, so he got a taxi ride to Warren to try and work something out at the bus station," Tempesta said.
When Row was told that he couldn't get a replacement ticket, he went to the Warren police station for help.
"I tried everything," Tempesta said. "I called the Red Cross and other organizations and even tried Greyhound back, but they said if you lose your ticket it's your problem."
Row also was unable to reach any family members or friends who could pay for the $180 ticket back to Canada.
"I felt so bad for him because he didn't have a way to get back, so I bought him the ticket," said Tempesta, who has been with the department for 18 months. "I just put it on my Visa."
The police officer said Row took his phone number and said he would find a way to pay him back.
"It doesn't matter if I don't get it back," Tempesta said. "I really just wanted to help him. He was 65 hours from home and not even in his own country."
Tempesta noted that Row plans to leave Monday, the day after the concert.
"His friends are here so they will help him with clothes and food," Tempesta said. "He's all the way here. He might as well enjoy the party."
