VINDICATOR CRIME REPORTER
YOUNGSTOWN -- Hours after an apparent domestic dispute that ended with the shooting death of a woman, police spotted Edward C. Anderson's Cadillac -- with "Fast Eddie" emblazoned on the trunk lid -- and arrested him.
Anderson, 58, of 357 E. Philadelphia Ave., was arrested around 3 a.m. today at his home and taken to police headquarters downtown to be questioned by homicide Detective Sgts. Gerry Maietta and Dave Lomax. Anderson was then taken to the Mahoning County jail at 5:40 a.m. to be booked on a murder charge.
Still unidentified
The woman, whose identity remained uncertain this morning, was shot four times at 357 E. Philadelphia Ave. around 11 p.m. Thursday. She was found lying in a driveway a few doors down after the resident heard moaning.
Maietta and Lomax, who were called to the scene, said Anderson and the woman had moved to the neighborhood just a few months ago. The neighbors didn't know her identity, the detectives said.
Reports describe the woman as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Police said she had a tattoo of a small heart on her right hand, and a hypodermic needle was found in the waistband of her sweat pants.
Shot four times
Coroner's investigator Rick Jamrosik determined the woman, who died shortly after arriving at St. Elizabeth Health Center, had been shot four times in her left side.
A neighbor who had heard banging noises coming from inside 357 E. Philadelphia didn't give it much thought because the neighbor frequently heard fights, reports show.
About 20 minutes after the witness heard the noises, he saw Anderson pull his "Fast Eddie" Cadillac out of the driveway and then saw the victim leave the house and walk through front yards.
The first officers on the scene found a blood trail from 357 to 369 E. Philadelphia. Police also found blood near the couch in the living room of the victim's house and by the front door.
Around 2:30 a.m., after seeing Anderson's car parked in front of his home, police used a PA system to call him out. During a search of the house, police confiscated an assortment of ammunition.
Other homicide
The homicide is the city's 13th of the year and second this week.
On Tuesday, Eric Martinez, 16, of Jackson Street was found shot to death around 11 p.m. in the driveway of a house at 1524 Josephine St. Dewaylyn Colvin, 22, of Nelson Street was also shot, and police believe the shootings are related.
