COLUMBIANA CO. United Way exceeds goals
SALEM -- Pledges received for the 2003-04 campaign of United Way of Northern Columbiana County has put the local United Way over its fund-raising goal, Executive Director John Tonti has announced.
Tonti said pledges to date represent 109.73 percent of the goal of $281,000 set for the year's drive.
He said the news of the success of the campaign was gratifying to agency officials, and will be especially appreciated by the 21 social service agencies in the area that rely on United Way assistance.
Tonti said that because the campaign pledges surpassed the fund-raising goal, the agencies served will receive 100 percent of the funds they requested to serve those in need in the areas of Columbiana, East Palestine, Hanoverton, Leetonia, Lisbon, New Waterford, Rogers, Salem, Salineville, Summitville and Washingtonville.
Board President Roger Hack believes the year's success shows that the agency endures as an efficient, effective, trustworthy and convenient way of donating to charity.
A calendar for the 2004-05 campaign was set by the board, with a kickoff date set for Sept. 8 at the Salem Community Center.
The local board makes all policies and decisions and all donations stay in Northern Columbiana County.
