CLASS AA Roth Brothers splits with Action, Metros
YOUNGSTOWN -- Roth Brothers rallied for one victory, but was then beaten by another rally as it split a doubleheader in the Class AA League at Pemberton-Donnell Park.
Bo Cooksey worked 11/3 innings, including a shutout eighth to pick up the win for Roth as it edged Action Sports 5-4.
Ryan Johnson, Sean Wardle and Jim Dutko each hit two singles for the winners. Mitch Dolenic hit three singles for Action Sports.
Youngstown Metros scored seven runs in the bottom of the third inning and went on to edge Roth, 10-9.
The Metros took a 9-8 lead in the fifth, but Roth tied it in the top of the sixth. Metro then rallied for the deciding run in the bottom half of the inning.
Jonathan Habuda hit three singles to pace the Metros. Relief pitcher George Rohan allowed only one hit, a run and struck out three to pick up the win. Sean Wardle and Rick Gozur led Roth with three singles apiece.
Warren Class AA
WARREN -- Branden Keck, Gary Gerba, Andrew Burnett and Ben Mackall each had two hits as D & amp;K Roofing (7-13) defeated MTC Knights (10-12), 11-3.
Gerba drove in three runs, while Burnett had two. Mackall, Burnett and Rob Thompson doubled.
Winning pitcher Anthony Jones had four strikeouts over seven innings.
For the Knights, Marc Vertoc had six strikeouts in six innings, while Jim Skiffey had two hits.
Glenn Morris struck out eight batters as Penn Ohio defeated Lone Wolf Freight Systems, 11-5.
Shawn Lucas, Ryan Burke and Kurt Weaver had three hits each for Penn Ohio (13-8). Lucas had three RBIs and a triple, while Weaver had two. Jim Newbrough homered and Adam Morgan doubled.
Frank Tempesta had three hits, including a homer, and three RBIs for Lone Wolf (9-11).
