YOUNGSTOWN -- Here comes the sun -- and here comes Sunfest, the annual family event in Mill Creek MetroParks on July 25.
It will begin at 9 a.m. with a Closest to the Pin Tournament at the Par 3 Golf Course in Wick Recreation Area, off McCollum Road, Youngstown. Cost is $5 and registration is not required.
Singles, teams and families must register, however, for the sand sculpture contest, which will be from 1-4 p.m., also in Wick Recreation Area. Cost is $5 to reserve a one-ton pile of sand, and this year's theme is movies.
Winners will be announced before the concert begins at 5:30 p.m. at Morley Pavilion. Local band Vegas will be the opening act for The Original Fantasys, a seven-piece band that will play classic rock songs from the 1950s to 1980s. Call (330) 702-3000 for details.
Exhibition winnersto be announced
WARREN -- Awards will be announced at 7 p.m. Saturday as Trumbull Art Gallery opens its 40th annual Juried Exhibition. A reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the gallery, 196 E. Market St. The show will be on display through Aug. 28.
Also on display in the Youth Art Gallery is "Art in Motion," by TAG students.
'Broadway' performancescoming to Thiel College
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Actors from Mercer and Butler counties in Pennsylvania and Trumbull and Mahoning counties in Ohio are participating in Greenville Area Community Theater's production of "Broadway," a musical comedy from 1926 by Broadway legend George Abbott. Performances will be at 8 p.m. July 21-24 and at 3 p.m. July 25 in Thiel College's Bly Hall. Admission is $12 for adults and $9 for students. The play is produced in conjunction with Greenville Symphony Orchestra, which relies on GACT for vocalists at its concerts.
