NORTH LIMA -- The Beaver Township trustees are looking into having a building constructed to store road salt.
At the trustees' regular monthly meeting, John Stear, township roads superintendent, told the board that having a building to store salt would allow the township to buy salt in advance and store it until it is needed to treat the roads during winter.
The township participates in a winter road maintenance program sponsored by the Ohio Department of Transportation. Through that program, the township buys salt.
Stear, however, said he believes the township can purchase the salt at a comparable price to what is paid through the ODOT program.
"We can buy our own salt, rather than worrying about running out when we need it," he said.
Nuisance properties
In other news, the trustees declared three township properties as public nuisances.
Township officials said the properties, at 302 Forest Ave., 11605 South Ave., and 2577 W. South Ave., have high grass and weeds and other debris property owners have neglected to remove.
Officials said they have asked those property owners on several occasions to comply with township and state regulations on property maintenance.
The township will proceed with plans to remove the grass, vegetation and debris from those properties and ask the county auditor's office to place liens on the properties.
, requiring property owners to reimburse the township for the cost of the work.
