Some foods help protect against sunburn

KNIGHT RIDDER NEWSPAPERS
Sunscreen is a must. We all know that.
But some skin specialists are concerned that few people apply enough to get maximum protection from the brutal ultraviolet rays.
So consider a supplement. Some studies indicate that certain food nutrients may provide added protection from the inside out, Prevention magazine reports.
They block the UV rays that set off the free radicals in the skin that can cause cancer in animals and humans.
The so-called good foods:
URed, yellow and orange fruits and vegetables with carotenoids. They tend to block sunburn, according to Prevention.
UGreen tea. It contains those super-antioxidants that block DNA damage.
UOranges, lemon and limes. They have limonene, which a University of Arizona study showed reduced the risk of skin cancer by 34 percent.
UWild salmon. A British study showed it protects against sunburn.
