SANDLOTS Koch/Line Drive rallies for win
Rondinelli's Tom Popadek tossed a one-hitter in the Mickey Mantle tournament.
STRUTHERS -- Koch Construction/Line Drive rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the Ohio Eagles, 9-8, Tuesday in the second round of the Mickey Mantle state tournament at Cene Park.
Armani Johnson had two hits, including a solo home run in the first inning, while Eddie Rohan had two doubles for the winners, who scored the winning run on D.J. Ronci's infield single in the bottom of the seventh.
Rondinelli 8, Cage Club 0
Tom Popadek tossed a one hit shutout as Rondinelli remained undefeated. Popadek had 13 strikeouts and walked just one. Tony Pozega had a triple and a single, while Ben Miller added two hits for Rondinelli.
Massillon Tigers 8, Astro Falcons 5
Jessie D'Amico had a solo home run and a double for Astros, while Joe Bako, Paul Ritchie and Kyle Smith had two hits each.
Joe Carpenter and Bobby Huth had two hits each for Massillon. Carpenter had a straight steal of home while Zack VanRyzin stole on the back side of a double steal.
Andy's 9ers 6, Wolf Contracting 2
A pair of two-run innings, the fifth and sixth, lifted Andy's to the win. Joe Burnich had a single and a double for Wolf while John Harkulich added two hits. Josh Fyffe suffered the loss as he allowed only four earned runs.
Boys of Summer West 7,Mill Creek Bandits 6
Gerald Ogrine hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and the Boys of Summer scored a run in the eighth to hand the Bandits their first loss.
John Pitzulo, Brett Grabman, Matt Ruble and Sam Shaffo had two hits for the Bandits.
First round
Dan Moran hit a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the seventh inning to drive home the winning run in Wolf Contracting's 1-0 win over Northern Ohio.
Josh Fyffe opened the seventh with a double off of a relief pitcher Dan Barno, then after two walks Moran drove home the game winner. Jarryd Summers tossed a two-hit shutout for Wolf as he struck out 12.
Bandits 5, Shaker 3
The Mill Creek Bandits scored two unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Shaker Raiders. Mike Rose, Brett Garmon and Josh Folkwein had two hits each for the winners, while John Houser tossed four innings of three-hit relief for the win. Houser had six strikeouts, no walks and no earned runs.
Koch/Line Drive 18, Garfield Hts. 6
Led by the 5-for-5 hitting of Armani Johnson, Joe Koch Construction/Line Drive Academy had 17 hits. D.J. Ronci added three hits, while David Patrick and Mike Keller had two hits each for the winners. Craig Schmidt allowed just one hit in four innings for the win.
Astro Falcons 10, Wayne County 1
Jim Kreibel went 4-for-4 with three doubles to lead the Astros. Andrew Turocy, Jesse D'Amico and winning pitcher Kyle Smith had two hits each.
Rondinelli 16, Cuyahoga Falls 5
Lonnie McQueen had three hits, including a triple while Tony Pozega had two hits. Dave Diyorio got the win.
