COLUMBIANA -- The Columbiana Board of Education hired Tim Saxton as high school principal.
Superintendent Ron Iarussi recommended Saxton to the board Tuesday.
Saxton, 36, is a Canfield High School and Bowling Green State University graduate. He begins a two-year contract at $70,000 Aug. 2.
Saxton has been principal of Carrollton High School in Carroll County since 1999. Before that, he was assistant high school principal for two years.
Stream Day at center
LISBON -- The Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center will host a Stream Day at 10 a.m. Saturday by the bridge at Beaver Creek State Park.
There will be demonstrations of macroinvertebrate collection and water quality testing, fish collection and identification and exhibits of native wildlife.
Shenango Valley Mallplans benefit fund-raiser
HERMITAGE, Pa. -- The Shenango Valley Mall will have a Christmas in July food drive Friday through Sunday to benefit the Prince of Peace Center.
Santa's sleigh will be parked in the mall during the food drive. Mall patrons are encouraged to help fill it with nonperishable food items. Items collected will be given to the Prince of Peace Center to be distributed to those in need.
Customers who donate items during the drive will receive a savings pack from mall merchants and will be eligible to win a 14 karat diamond pendant valued at $150.
Customers who donate items Friday from 1-3 p.m. will be also able to spin the HOT 101.1 birthday wheel.

Woman hurt in crash
LISBON -- A Wellsville woman was injured in a two-car crash on state Route 45/U.S. 30 south of Lisbon near West Point.
Lora Joy, 51, was admitted for observation after the crash at 7:51 p.m. Tuesday, a Salem Community Hospital spokeswoman said.
According to the Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Tracy Furman, 37, of East Liverpool, was driving east on U.S. 30 and slowed for a stopped vehicle. Her car was struck in the rear by a car driven by Joy. Both cars struck a guardrail and went off the road. Joy's car bounced off the guardrail and went off the road, striking the corner of a house.
No other injuries were reported.
The patrol said Joy was cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance between her car and the one in front of her.
Bridge to open to traffic
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Hickory Run Bridge in North Beaver Township will open to traffic Friday, said state Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle, D-9th.
Construction of the bridge, a $1.2 million project, started Feb. 16. It is at the intersection of state Route 551/108 and Reed Road.
Motorcyclist injured
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police said Peter Mihaly, 29, suffered major injuries when he was thrown from a motorcycle Tuesday on Clark Road, east of Mud Bridge Road in Little Beaver Township.
He was traveling west when he crossed the center line and crashed into a car driven by Carol Mihaly, 55. Police said the two are related, but did not know the relationship. Their addresses also were not available from police.
Peter Mihaly, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.
His condition was not available this morning.
Mill Creek Watershed ride
CANFIELD -- Bicyclists are being invited to participate in the third annual Mill Creek Watershed ride Aug. 7.
The 30-mile course, featuring scenic and rolling terrain, will go from Canfield to the headwaters of Mill Creek south of Columbiana.
This year, riders will have the option of pedaling an additional 25 miles in the Yellow Creek watershed.
The fee is $10 and includes a light lunch. Registration deadline is Aug. 5. Call the Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District at (330) 533-2231 for information and registration.
