GIRARD -- City police were to confer with the prosecutor today to determine if criminal charges can be filed against a man who has three runaway teenagers with him.
Police think Braedon Clare, 20, of Tod Lane, Youngstown, fled the area with the teenagers because he is facing arson charges.
Capt. Frank Bigowsky said Clare's case was presented to a Trumbull County grand jury last week. He is accused in connection with having his car taken from Girard and burned in Niles in October 2003 to collect the insurance.
The teenagers are Allison Foster, 17, and her brother, Jeffery Foster, 15, both of Washington Avenue, and Anthony Tyler Owens, 15, of North Highland Avenue.
Allison has cancer and must receive treatments about every two months or it could become life-threatening, said her mother, Pamela Barrios.
"She needs to get back here," the captain said.
Allison is supposedly Clare's girlfriend, police said.
Last seen in Virginia
The four were last known to be in Richmond, Va., at 2 p.m. Saturday, where Clare's car was involved in a minor traffic mishap.
Bigowsky said police were called but didn't take a report because of the lack of damage. This, the captain noted, was about four hours after they had fled.
The four are believed to be riding in a 1988 white Honda Civic with Ohio registration DAF 9307.
Barrios said she heard that Clare and her daughter wanted to go to Mississippi to get married, and then live in California.
Barrios said she wouldn't let her daughter see Clare because she didn't like him.
"I haven't heard a word from them," Barrios said this morning. "I'm worried about my children."
Bigowsky said the case can't be treated as an Amber Alert because the teens are runaways. The alert is for children who have been abducted.
However, he has requested the assistance of the Center for Missing & amp; Exploited Children.
